A spectacular vintage circa 1950s cocktail hat from Gimbels Pittsburgh, lavishly embellished with hundreds of chocolate brown sequins and an assortment of faceted jewel-like stones in warm amber, smoky brown, champagne, pale gold and soft pink tones.

The hat features a close-fitting rounded crown with a wonderfully unusual sculptural lower edge. Rather than following a simple continuous line around the head, the crown extends downward into a series of individually shaped points or tabs, giving the silhouette an almost crown-like appearance when worn.

The entire exterior is densely hand embellished with overlapping brown sequins stitched onto a coordinating open mesh foundation. Scattered throughout are larger faceted stones in an assortment of shapes and sizes, including round, oval, teardrop and elongated navette forms. Their varied warm tones create flashes of amber, champagne, smoky topaz, blush and pale gold against the rich chocolate-brown ground.

The irregular placement of the larger stones gives the surface an almost mosaic-like quality, while the densely layered sequins provide continuous shimmer.
