Vintage 1950s Brown Feather Brimmed Toque Hat – Sculptural Pheasant Feather Cocktail Hat
Description
A striking vintage circa 1950s feather toque featuring a sculptural rounded crown and distinctive projecting rim, completely embellished with beautifully layered brown feathers.
The hat features a softly rounded crown surrounded by a substantial feather-covered rim that projects outward from the base, giving the silhouette wonderful dimension and structure. Unlike a pillbox or halo hat, this design has a clearly defined crown and rim, creating an elegant brimmed toque silhouette.
Layers of glossy feathers sweep around the exterior in overlapping rows, creating a rich textural effect. The natural coloring ranges from warm caramel and copper to chestnut and deep chocolate brown, with occasional lighter cream-toned markings adding contrast. The feathers have a beautiful natural sheen that changes with the light.
The top of the crown is finished with coordinating golden-brown feathers arranged more smoothly against the surface, providing a subtle contrast to the fuller, sweeping feather treatment around the sides and rim.
Inside, the hat has a structured dark brown foundation with grosgrain finishing around the interior. A small original tag is present, although the wording is not sufficiently clear in the photographs to confidently identify the maker.
An especially beautiful example of mid-century feather millinery, combining an unusual sculptural silhouette with rich natural coloring and extensive hand-applied feather work.
