Description

A wonderfully unusual vintage circa 1960s pillbox hat combining a colorful abstract printed fabric with dramatic dimensional metallic ribbon work.

The structured pillbox silhouette is covered in a painterly textile featuring shades of emerald and spring green, aqua blue, pale blue, cream and touches of earthy taupe. Over the fabric, twisted metallic ribbons in silvery white and green-gold have been individually applied in looping, serpentine patterns across the entire crown and sides.

The raised ribbon embellishment gives the hat tremendous texture and movement, almost resembling scrolling vines or abstract embroidery. Metallic threads catch the light beautifully and provide an elegant contrast against the energetic green and blue printed background.

The hat has a substantial rounded pillbox shape with a softly domed crown and wide structured sides. Inside, it is finished with olive green grosgrain ribbon and a dark open-weave mesh lining through which the colorful exterior textile can still be seen.
