A spectacular vintage circa 1940s hat by Hanna Chapeaux of Pittsburgh, combining rich black velvet with dramatically ruched champagne and bronze-toned satin, a sparkling rhinestone ornament, and a delicate black feather accent.

The lower portion of the hat is fashioned in plush black velvet with softly gathered and pleated detailing that creates a beautifully sculptural foundation. Above it, generous layers of lustrous satin are gathered, twisted, and ruched around the crown in graduated shades of champagne, warm taupe, and bronze.

The satin has a wonderfully fluid quality, creating irregular folds and sculptural peaks that catch the light differently from every angle. The contrast between the luminous satin and deep black velvet gives the hat an especially luxurious appearance.
