The hat has a beautifully shaped close-fitting silhouette with a high rounded crown and deeply curved sides designed to frame the head while leaving the back open. Its compact architectural construction is characteristic of the inventive sculptural millinery popular during the 1940s, when hats often relied on dramatic texture and embellishment rather than large brims.

The exterior is covered in warm brown velvet with wonderful depth and variation to the pile. Across the surface, rows of small dark sequins have been individually stitched into undulating bands, loops and abstract scroll-like formations.
