The hat is constructed from tightly woven glossy black straw in a compact, close-fitting silhouette designed to perch neatly on the head. The shallow rounded form provides an understated foundation for the much more dramatic ribbon and veil treatment above.

An extraordinary oversized satin bow dominates the crown. Fashioned from wide ribbon in a very deep plum-burgundy tone, the ribbon has been manipulated into generous free-form loops and sculptural folds rather than a conventional symmetrical bow. The result is wonderfully dimensional, with the satin catching the light across its sweeping curves and creating an almost floral appearance from certain angles.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The structured black woven foundation retains its shape and the oversized satin ribbon ornament remains beautifully dramatic.
