An extraordinary late 1940s to early 1950s floral toque from Himmelhoch’s of Detroit, completely covered in an abundant garden of vintage millinery flowers, leaves, berries and blossoms.

The structured openwork crown is wrapped in green netting and almost entirely concealed beneath layers of dimensional silk and fabric florals. The palette is especially beautiful, combining soft celadon, mint, sage and olive green with touches of pale yellow, peach, blush pink and warm golden tones.

Large open blossoms with detailed stamens mingle with chrysanthemums, tiny clustered flowers, leaves, buds and berry-like accents. Rather than a single floral trim, the flowers form the entire visual surface of the hat, giving it the appearance of a lush miniature garden.

The interior reveals the fascinating hand-built millinery construction, with a radial wire framework supporting the net crown and individually arranged floral elements. The original Himmelhoch’s Detroit label remains attached inside.
